Cultural Tour in September – with more comfort
This tours is especially suitable for those who want a little more comfort. You will not spend your nights in yurt camps but in guesthouses or small hotels. Elderly people can also participate in these tours without problem.
At the beginning of your tour you will be in Bishkek for an extra day and so have the opportunity to be present at “Independence Day” and its festivities. Then you will make a trip around Lake Issyk-Kul, a beautiful lake in the eastern part of Kyrgyzstan at an altitude of 1600m.
You start with an overnight stay in Kemin, a valley on the border with Kazakhstan. The next day you will continue to Kochkor, a small town and centre for felt making. Here you will visit some cooperative workshops where handmade felt products are exhibited and sold. On your way to Tamga, on the south shore, you will stop at a village well-known for making yurts. You will see and get an explanation of how a yurt is made. You will spend two nights in Karakol, the largest town on Lake Issyk –Kul. Here you can visit the Russian orthodox cathedral and a mosque originally built as a lama temple. There is a day trip to the flower valley Djeti-Ögus. It is also possible to visit a spa built during Soviet time and still in operation. Here you can take a bath or get a massage. Do not expect anything luxurious it is still functioning as it did in Soviet times! On the north shore in Cholpon-Ata you will visit an open air museum with petroglyphes, rock drawings from the 3th-1th century B.C. From Bishkek you will make an excursion to Ala-Archa National park, about 40 km west of the town. An interpreter will be available during the whole tour.
The maximum number of participants is 8. Transportation is by minibus, in Bishkek you will stay in Hotel Umai, (www.umai-hotel-kg.com), during the trip in guesthouses or hotels everything is included in the price, except flight, visa and bottled drinks. A visa can be obtained upon arriving at the Airport. Prices of flights depend on the airline company, place of departure and date of booking. Up to and including January 2011 it is possible to buy cheap flight tickets. (Amsterdam-Bishkek around 450 Euro).
